Constructed in the eighteenth century (George III) this highly ornate, vaulted ceiling was last decorated in the 1960's: The local painting contractor who took over the works from another who had carried out or attempted to carry out, the preparation of this prestige job, has shown a remarkable attitude in completing a fine ceiling to a consistently good standard.

An unusual arrangement has been taken into account by the judges of liaison and day to day supervision of young college students who carried out gold leaf work to column heads.

Most impressive is the quality of cutting in and the colour matching carried out under direction of the Newark (a local) architect - commissioned by the local authority under other commercial arrangements. The team's enthusiasm is shown by these works seen in the decorating contract.
